The Danish building and construction industry is thriving. Investor confidence is high and profits are healthy. Starting tomorrow, Copenhagen taxi riders will be able to use a taxi powered by hydrogen fuel cells. The taxi company DRIVR will have eight new Toyota Mirai hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) taxis as part of their fleet. The launch of the new taxis will be made at an event at Refshaleøen.

The task is to establish a 1.3 gigawatt (GW) electrolysis facility in the Greater Copenhagen area, capable of generating hydrogen from water in a process that will be powered entirely with offshore wind power. The hydrogen will be produced locally in Greater Copenhagen based on offshore wind, and the project will investigate how to optimally integrate with the local energy system. The ferry that has the working name Europa Seaways, is designed for 1,800 passengers and has capacity for 120 lorries or 380 cars.

“If realised as envisaged, the project will be located in the Greater Copenhagen Area and could supply renewable hydrogen for zero-emission buses tendered by Movia and heavy-duty trucks managed by DSV Panalpina, renewable methanol for A.P. Moller-Maersk vessels and renewable jet fuel (e-kerosene) for SAS airplanes and air transport out of Copenhagen Airports,” the companies said in a statement.
